GENERATIONAL DISCOMFORT
Youth & Anxiety
More and more young people are living with a form of constant anxiety. Some call it anxiety, stress, or mental overload. Others have no words for it, just a vague sense of unease, inner fatigue, and constant tension.
You can believe in God, go to church sometimes, or be searching—and still feel that way. It's not a lack of faith. It's not shameful. It's a struggle.
1. Start by acknowledging that you are unwell.
It's okay to not be okay. You don't have to fake it. It's not a sign of weakness, but of humanity.
The biggest trap is believing that you have to face everything alone. You have the right to say: “I’m tired,” “I’m scared,” “I don’t know anymore.”
Christ is there in this confession.
He is not waiting for you at the top, but in your fall.
2. Be silent, and nourish your soul
When anxiety takes over, you may tend to look for quick fixes: videos, scrolling, distractions.
But the soul does not heal in distraction. It needs silence, truth, presence.
Try this:
– Turn off your phone for an hour.
– Put on some calm music.
– Light a candle.
– Read a psalm.
– Say a simple prayer:
“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me.”
You don't need to understand everything.
You just need to breathe with God.
3. Christ is with you in what you are going through
You may not see anything. You may not feel anything. But He is there.
He doesn't watch you from afar. He is at the heart of your night.
Christ knew anguish, agony, abandonment. He is no stranger to what you are experiencing.
Talk to a priest. Participate in the sacraments if you can. Even a simple cross around your neck can remind you that you are not alone.
Christ is closer than you think.
4. What you feel today won't last forever.
You are not defined by your anxiety.
You are not condemned to this discomfort.
You are on a journey. What you are experiencing today, however difficult it may be, can become a place of depth, of faith, of returning to the essential.
But don't go through it alone. Speak. Pray. Seek. And above all: stay connected to the One who can truly save.
To remember:
Anxiety doesn't define you.
Christ awaits you in the very heart of your fragility.
Prayer is a real force, even silently.
Peace comes with time, faith, and hope.
You don't have to be perfect to draw near to God. Just be sincere.
Holy Shadows. For those who fall but do not renounce the light.
